robot soccer, a brainchild of Prof. Jong-Hwan Kim, KAIST, began
in 1995 and the first international championship was held at
KAIST, Daejeon, Korea in 1996. And Federation of International
Robot-soccer Association (or FIRA, in short) was officially
founded in June 1997. FIRA has a basic goal of taking the spirit
of science and technology of robotics to the laymen and the
younger generation, through the game of robot soccer. Robot
soccer can be portrayed as a competition of advanced robot technology
within a confined space. It offers a challenging arena to the
young generation and researchers working with autonomous mobile
robotic systems.
It is hoped that FIRA’s flagship event, called the
FIRA Robot World Cup (or the FIRA Cup in short), which started
in 1996, together with many other FIRA events, will help generate
interests in robotics in the young minds.
Through these events, FIRA hopes to help them better understand
and appreciate, with interests, the scientific concepts and
technological developments involved. FIRA believes that some
of these interests will fuel scientific and engineering skills
that ultimately develop into research outcomes to serve mankind
in a variety of ways.
Ever since its establishment, FIRA has had venues for its
annual FIRA Cup in Australia, Brazil, China, France and Korea.
Making progress over successive years since 1996, FIRA Cup
has now attained world recognition as a robot festival. |

younger generation and researchers working with autonomous mobile
robotic systems.
With periodic robot soccer competitions, events related robot
soccer are held at various kind of type,
for example, Robot Camp, Exhibition, Demonstration, and etc.
Through these kind of Events, students and laymen in the
world of science and technology can have generate interest.
This will pave the way for them to appreciate and understand,
the scientific concepts and technological developments in
a better way.

| FIRA
Robot World Congress is held along with FIRA Cup, where all
participating teams submit and present papers on their robots
and schemes for sharing the expertise and technology for building
the soccer robots.
FIRA Congress welcomes paper submissions from researchers,
practitioners, and students worldwide to share the expertise
and technology of building intelligent robots including entertainment/education/service/field/personal
robots.
The Congress is aimed to bring together skilled researchers
and students from different backgrounds, such as robotics,
sensor fusion, intelligent control, communication, image processing,
mechatronics, computer technology, artificial life, etc.,
into an interdisciplinary field for the development of intelligent,
autonomous robots for the welfare of human-beings.

Robot Olympiad |
'Robot
Olympiad' is a science, technology and educational event aimed
at offering our promising youngsters an opportunity to expand
their horizons by introducing to them technology along with
the existing Mathematics Olympiad, Physics Olympiad and Chemistry
Olympiad.
The previously established Robot World Cup under the auspices
of the FIRA has limited participants to university students
majoring in related fields. However, in this special 'Robot
Olympiad', the door to "Micro-robot'' is wide open for
our science prodigies.
